  • We will serve English reader's vespers Friday to celebrate the feast of St. Chariton the Confessor.
  • On Saturday at 4 p.m. we'll serve an English reader's vigil followed by dinner and fellowship.
  • Sunday through Monday or Tuesday, some of us are going on a retreat up to the Holy Protection (Agia Skepi) Greek convent less than 2 hours north of here.
    If you haven't heard from Stephaons separately working out logistics and had said you were going, let him know.
  • Next Saturday, October 18, our sister parish, Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Wilmington, Delaware will host a one-day educational retreat from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.www.sspeterandpauluoc.org Fr. John Udics and Fr. Frank Estocin will be speaking.
    Go to www.sspeterandpauluoc.org for more details.
    We hope a few people can make it down there to show our support, and so we'll delay the start of the vigil next week until 4:30 to give people time to drive back up after that retreat.
  • Friday Sept. 26, An online calendar that lists all of the saints of the day, daily scripture readings as well as the Troparia and Kontakia of the day has been added to the Services page.
  • We hope we might trouble you to consider giving to several worthy causes if God has blessed you with the means to do so:

    1. The St. Nicholas Ugandan Children's Fund provides for the education, health, and well-being of Ugandan children, young adults, and families.
      They provide food and clothing to orphans and vulnerable children, enabling them to attend school.
      While the charity helps children regardless of religion, it is I believe run by Orthodox Christians and there is a small but thriving indigenous Orthodox church under the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
      If you are interested in helping, you can send donations to:

           The St. Nicholas Uganda Children's Fund,
           P.O. Box 285
           Chardon, OH 44024-0285

      To find out more about the Children's Fund, visit www.ugandachildrensfund.org or contact us at info@ugandachildrensfund.org
    2. Our own parish needs to replace our 28-year-old heating and hot water systems;
      the utility bills are running several thousand dollars per month and eating up more than 30% of our budget (and of course energy prices are going through the roof).
      Unfortunately, the cost of a high-efficiency system is going to run at least $34,300, and we need to start replacing it now, before winter hits.
      Please pray about this and, if you or someone you know is able, please consider donating to cover at least a part of one of our systems (you can contact me or treasurer Elena Lukashenko (elenalukashenko@verizon.net) --A donation of $10,000 will cover the cost of a boiler, including installation;
      --$5000 will pay to separate out the rectory and church hall heat systems, so we don't need to heat the hall all week to keep Father warm upstairs.
      --$3000 will pay for a new, high-efficiency water heater system
      --$800 per radiator will pay to convert the church steam radiators over to more reliable hot-water heat, so they can run off the same boilers as the rectory and hall;
      --$250 per thermostat will pay for new, high-efficiency programmable thermostats, so we heat and cool areas only when we're about to use them.
